Bluefield State College Anticipates Record-Setting Enrollment Increase for Fall Semester
A record-setting enrollment increase at Bluefield State College—that’s what fall semester 2021 numbers indicate, according to BSC officials. On August 31, 2021, the total number of students enrolled was 12.6% higher than it was on the same date one year ago.
BSC Student Virginia Zanotti Recognized as College’s “Top Engineering Technology Freshman”
Virginia Zanotti was recently recognized as Bluefield State College’s top Engineering Technology Freshman for the 2020-2021 Academic Year and as the recipient of the Claude B. Dalton Scholarship. She is a Civil Engineering Technology Major from Argentina and currently holds a 4.0 GPA. She is a student worker and is also a member of the Bluefield State College Women’s Tennis Team.
Bluefield State College President Delivers “State of the College Address
Bluefield State College Robin Capehart recently delivered the State of the College address to an in-person audience in the Hebert Gallery/Student Center and to a virtual audience online. Since Capehart's arrival at BSC in 2019, the College has reversed a significant enrollment decline and is now the fastest growing public college in West Virginia.

BSC Students to Receive $870,000+ in COVID-Related Funding
Bluefield State College officials have announced that more than $870 thousand dollars in COVID-related funding will be distributed to BSC students this month. “Every student registered for classes when the Fall 2021 Semester began on August 12 will receive a direct payment,” noted College President Robin Capehart.
BSC Faculty Member Dr. Debjani Chakrabarti Participates in Prestigious Summer Institute for Israel Studies Fellowship
For Bluefield State College faculty member Dr. Debjani Chakrabarti, the wait was worth the experience. The current Associate Professor of Sociology was chosen to take part in the competitive and prestigious Summer Institute for Israel Studies Summer 2020 Fellowship, under the auspices of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University in Massachusetts. But the COVID pandemic forced the rescheduling of the Institute for 2021, and so, earlier this summer, she was among a dozen faculty members from universities and colleges across the United States and beyond who took part in the multidimensional experience of Israeli life and society.

West Virginia Junior Nursing Academy at BSC and PCH July 27-29 Offers 8th Grade Students a “True Nursing Experience”
Eighth-grade students from Mercer, McDowell, and Monroe Counties with an interest in the nursing profession will have a chance to spend time working alongside real nurses in real hospital environments during the three-day West Virginia Junior Nursing Academy at Bluefield State College and Princeton Community Hospital, July 27-29.
William B. Robertson Memorial Service, July 29 at BSC
The life and legacy of the late William B. Robertson will be celebrated during a memorial service, July 29, 2021 beginning at 1 pm in the Basic Science Auditorium on the BSC campus. Robertson, a BSC alumnus, was recognized in 2019 when the Bluefield State College library was renamed in his honor.
The Coal Institute Presents Scholarship Award to Bluefield State College
Bluefield State College has been selected as one of eight institutions of higher education to receive a $2000 scholarship from The Coal Institute. One BSC student will be awarded the scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.
Bluestone Health Association and BSC Partner to Offer COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics
Responding to the increasing number of positive COVID cases in this region, Bluestone Health Association, Inc. and Bluefield State College are partnering to offer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations at BSC on July 29 and August 6. Three weeks following the first vaccine (August 20 and 27, respectively) a second vaccination session will be conducted for individuals who received their first COVID shot on July 29 and August 6.

Bluefield State College Foundation Announces $250,000 Grant from the AEP Foundation
The Bluefield State College Foundation today announced that the American Electric Power Foundation has awarded it a $250,000 grant. The gift is part of the AEP Foundation’s Delivering on the Dream: Social and Racial Justice Grants program, which is a five-year, $5 million commitment to fund organizations with programs dedicated to advancing social and racial justice in communities American Electric Power serves.

Bluefield State College Signs MOU with El Salvador-based Institution of Higher Education
Bluefield State College has entered into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ESCUELA ESPECIALIZADA EN INGENIERIA ITCA FEPADE in El Salvador. BSC Provost Dr. Ted Lewis, Interim Dean of the BSC School of STEM Dr. Jan Czarnecki, the College’s Computer Science Chairman Dr. Bill Bennett, and Dr. Sudhakar R.
